Program Note

I have often imagined what the San Francisco peninsula might have been like before it was settled in 1776. It must have been a place of wild beauty; old-growth forests meeting dunes and cliffs and the Pacific. Before the concept of ‘city’ had taken hold, the forests must have been dense and dark and thronging with creatures.

In The Forest Reclaims the Land, I have imagined a future for San Francisco where the people have gone and the forest flourishes once again. I have tried to capture the feeling of the old, dense forest, as well as the life that breathes within it.
